Unlike the later SiS 735 chipset which used the host-processed SiS 7012, the SiS 630/730 featured the fully hardware accelerated SiS 7018 core which itself is a design licensed from Trident, sold as the Trident 4DWave (the same design was also licensed by ALi for use in their 5451 chipset). The Windows 95 VxD drivers take advantage of the hardware acceleration, and there is also SoundBlaster 16 emulation for MS-DOS based games.
Unfortunately SiS chose to drop all of the hardware features from Windows 2000 onwards, treating it as a simpler AC97 host processed solution, as the SiS 7012. At the time of writing there is still no support for the hardware DirectSound, mixing or MIDI features that this chip provides in the WDM driver.

Device drivers are the software interfaces that talk directly to the physical network hardware. The PCI\VEN Code can be broken down into parts that relate to the hardware manufacturer, the category of the hardware and the revision of the hardware. The first part, the "PCI\VEN_", is specific to the manufacturer, SiS has the PCI\VEN code of "PCI\VEN_1039". The "&DEV_" part of the code relates to the hardware, in this case the "DEV_0191" relates to network hardware, specifically the 191 Gigabit Ethernet. If the network device is slow or just seems to be not working, then it is likely that the driver is a generic driver, is not installed correctly or is just broken. For use only with the SiS 191 Gigabit Ethernet device, an up-to-date list of downloads is shown below.
Hi,after a few happy year using MX 15/16 I decided to move to Antix because my very old machine is a noPAE one. After installing the system I got the screen resolution is not correct, i.e. 1024768 but the real resolution should be 1280768.I understand this is due to the fact I use the Vesa driver, but I was not able to use the sis driver, because if I use the command:sudo make-xorg-conf sisimedia -o /etc/X11/xorg.confX does not start and I stay only in usual no graphic login. My config as shown by the inxi -Fxz command is as follows.Of course the X driver is the actual Vesa.
EDIT: as ususal, I started to answer before I started with thinking ?in the meantime I realize, that there is no more sis driver in Debian (and therefore in antiX)the last Debian version with this driver was Wheezy and antiX-15
Thank you, trying simply to change the resolution does not lead to something. I will try the way to build the missing sis driver, if i will be able to make it. I do not know why this driver was dropped by Debian, and that is a pity (I know Sis is a very old stuff, but Linux sometimes is really useful to recover old hardware).
Please update this page with the status of each NIC that is tested. Try to test a Windows XP driver and if that fails try a Windows 2000 driver (but be sure to mention the failure of the XP driver in your comments). AS YOU CAN SEE, THE LIST IS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. PLEASE KEEP IT THIS WAY.

The ipconfig /all command showed the network adapter in thedomain controller as a "SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter". Peforminga Google search on whether others had encountered a MAC address of all zeros with this adapter, I found that using the default driver Windows XPprovides for this adapter yields an all-zero MAC address for the adapter. The same appears to be true for SBS 2003 systems. Responses to a postingat Anyone else withideas for SIS 900 ethernet?1, indicated that updating the driverfor the network adapter might resolve the problem. This is apparently a commonproblem with motherboards that have this network adapter built-in2, 3. I thought updating the driver might require a reboot. I didn't want to reboot the server, so I changed its MAC address, instead, to a valid MAC address, which resolved the problem. Once I did that, I could ping the firewall from the server and vice versa and access the Internet. The change did not require a reboot.
Just got a machine with this motherboard. I know, they're terrible! But I don't care, I just wanna get this running. The manual mentions a CD but I don't have it. I cannot find it in vogonsdrivers.
Anybody got a copy of it? I have the system running a Windows ME and I want to refresh it to 98SE but I would need drivers for all this stuff. Manual mentions IDE bus, USB, video, sound, LAN and modem drivers, plus an application for configuring the sound hardware.
With my PCChips M930 (SiS 645) when I install Win98 I found that I need the SiS IDE driver (the default one works, but the port does have better bandwidth with the SiS driver), and there's an AGP driver that I install, though I've not done a performance check of before/after to see if it nets me any performance gain over the default driver that 98 installs. I found a driver for the LAN, but I'm not using it, and I found that having it enabled with the driver installed causes a noticeable delay in getting to the desktop as it apparently searches for a network. I found a driver for the onboard sound, but only one channel works so I disabled it and use a sound card instead. For USB I use the NUSB driver that you can find linked here, it works very well: Generic Win98SE Installation & Setup Guide
